Coinbase Pro Is Coming Back as Deribit Becomes Part of…

Coinbase is bringing Coinbase Pro back by the end of 2026, more than four years after beginning to retire the original professional trading platform, while its completed Deribit integration has created what the company is calling Coinbase Global Exchange.

The U.S. exchange announced the changes on October 7 as part of a wider expansion aimed at combining crypto spot markets, derivatives and equities within a single trading ecosystem.

The revived Coinbase Pro will not simply restore the product discontinued in 2022. Coinbase said it is rebuilding the platform from the ground up for active and high-volume traders, with faster order routing, improved execution and advanced trading tools.

More importantly, its product scope will be substantially broader: Coinbase Pro is expected to support spot, futures, perpetual futures, options and equities under one roof.

The announcement comes after Coinbase completed the integration of Deribit, the crypto derivatives exchange it acquired for approximately $2.9 billion in 2025.

Deribit Becomes Core to Coinbase’s Global Exchange

Coinbase said the completed integration has created Coinbase Global Exchange, combining Coinbase International Exchange with Deribit‘s derivatives infrastructure.

Deribit brings considerable scale. Coinbase said the platform held more than $30 billion of Bitcoin options open interest as of September 30 and processed more than $1 trillion of trading volume last year.

The integration also changes the infrastructure underneath Coinbase’s existing international derivatives business.

Coinbase’s support documentation confirms that perpetual trading previously handled by Coinbase International Exchange has moved to Deribit by Coinbase. Institutional International Exchange accounts, positions and balances have also been migrated to the combined platform.

Coinbase Financial Markets, its U.S.-regulated futures commission merchant, will subsequently connect eligible U.S. customers with global derivatives liquidity.

The company says this will create a single regulated liquidity pool spanning U.S. and international crypto derivatives markets. The structure follows Commodity Futures Trading Commission guidance issued in May that Coinbase says permits CFM to provide qualifying U.S. clients access to global options and perpetual-futures liquidity.

Deribit-powered options, unified portfolios and additional margin capabilities are scheduled to roll out over the coming weeks.

Options, Margin and Coinbase Pro Expand the Everything Exchange

Coinbase is simultaneously introducing spot margin trading, offering eligible customers leverage of up to 10x on selected major assets and up to 5x on other supported assets. More than 15 assets can be used as collateral, although availability varies by jurisdiction and U.S. access is restricted.

Options will initially become available to eligible customers outside the U.S. in the coming weeks. U.S. institutional clients will access Deribit options and perpetuals through Coinbase Prime, while U.S. retail options access is expected later this year.

Coinbase Advanced is also receiving a new matching engine, revised fee tiers beginning at $10,000 of qualifying trading volume and an options strategy builder capable of executing multi-leg trades.

The return of Coinbase Pro therefore represents only one component of a considerably larger restructuring.

Coinbase retired the original Pro platform as it consolidated sophisticated trading features into Coinbase Advanced, completing that transition in 2023. Its decision to resurrect the brand suggests the company again sees value in maintaining a dedicated interface for professional and high-frequency users.

Deribit provides the derivatives infrastructure needed to make that product substantially broader than its predecessor.

One distinction remains important: Coinbase Global Exchange is not simply Deribit being renamed Coinbase Pro. Coinbase describes Global Exchange as the combined global trading and liquidity infrastructure, while Coinbase Pro will return later this year as the professional-facing trading platform within its wider Everything Exchange strategy.
