Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Lose $520 Million as Crypto Fund…

U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds recorded a combined $520 million of net outflows on September 16, extending institutional selling as crypto markets absorbed the Federal Reserve’s first interest-rate increase in three years and the fallout from the Senate’s failed CLARITY Act vote.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $295.9 million, according to finalized Farside Investors data, following an even larger $450.4 million withdrawal on September 15. The two sessions therefore removed $746.3 million from Bitcoin funds.

Ether ETFs experienced an even broader retreat, recording $224.1 million of net outflows Wednesday after losing $142.3 million Tuesday. Combined two-day Ether redemptions reached $366.4 million.

Across Bitcoin and Ether products together, investors withdrew approximately $1.11 billion in two sessions.

The selling coincided with continued weakness in digital assets. Bitcoin remained around $75,000-$76,000 after the Senate failed to advance comprehensive crypto market-structure legislation and the Federal Reserve subsequently raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%.

BlackRock Leads Bitcoin Redemptions

BlackRock’s IBIT recorded the largest Bitcoin withdrawal Wednesday at $144.1 million, accounting for almost half of the category’s total.

ARK Invest and 21Shares’ ARKB followed with $84.4 million of outflows, while Fidelity’s FBTC lost $52.7 million and Grayscale’s GBTC shed another $18.2 million.

Morgan Stanley’s MSBT was the only Bitcoin product to attract fresh capital, recording $3.5 million of inflows. Bitwise’s BITB, Invesco’s BTCO, Franklin Templeton’s EZBC, VanEck’s HODL, WisdomTree’s BTCW and Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust were unchanged.

The finalized $295.9 million total is significantly larger than the preliminary $151.8 million figure available earlier Wednesday because BlackRock’s $144.1 million redemption had not yet been reported.

The latest withdrawals reduced cumulative net Bitcoin ETF inflows to approximately $54.64 billion, according to Farside.

Every Active Ether Flow Turns Negative

Ether funds showed an even more uniformly bearish pattern.

BlackRock’s ETHA led with $110 million of withdrawals, followed by Fidelity’s FETH at $55.6 million. BlackRock’s staking-enabled ETHB lost $19.8 million, VanEck’s ETHV shed $14 million, Grayscale’s legacy ETHE lost $13.9 million and 21Shares’ TETH recorded $10.8 million of redemptions.

No Ether ETF reported a positive flow Wednesday. Bitwise’s ETHW, Invesco’s QETH, Franklin Templeton’s EZET and Grayscale’s Ethereum Mini Trust were unchanged.

Cumulative net Ether ETF inflows fell to approximately $13.14 billion.

Solana funds provided the only modest counterpoint. The category attracted $0.8 million, with Bitwise’s BSOL adding $2.7 million while Grayscale’s GSOL lost $1.9 million. Cumulative Solana ETF flows remained approximately $1.33 billion.

The September 16 session therefore reinforced a sharp reversal in institutional positioning. Bitcoin ETFs attracted $159.9 million and Ether funds $121.1 million as recently as September 14; two sessions later, more than $1.1 billion had exited the two categories.

With Bitcoin still struggling around $76,000, ETF flows now indicate that institutional investors have yet to meaningfully buy the dip following this week’s regulatory and monetary-policy shocks.
