BlackRock Launches New Tokenized Money Market Funds as…

BlackRock has expanded its tokenized finance strategy by launching two new blockchain-based money market funds, deepening its presence in one of the fastest-growing segments of digital assets as traditional finance increasingly embraces tokenization. The new funds—BlackRock USD Treasury Reserve Fund (BRSRV) and BlackRock Treasury Reserve Fund (TRSRV)—are designed to hold short-term US government securities and qualify as eligible reserve assets for stablecoin issuers operating under the recently enacted GENIUS Act, according to the company. Securitize will serve as the transfer agent and tokenization provider for the products.

The launch builds on BlackRock’s growing tokenized asset franchise following the success of its BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), which has become one of the largest tokenized US Treasury funds in the market. The new offerings broaden the firm’s blockchain-native cash management products as demand grows from stablecoin issuers and institutional investors seeking regulated, yield-bearing on-chain assets. BlackRock recently became the first asset manager to surpass $15 trillion in assets under management, underscoring the significance of its continued investment in blockchain-based financial infrastructure.

New Funds Target Stablecoin Reserve Market

Unlike speculative cryptocurrency products, tokenized money market funds represent traditional financial instruments whose ownership records are maintained on blockchain networks. The newly launched funds invest in highly liquid, short-duration government securities while enabling investors to subscribe, redeem and transfer ownership through blockchain infrastructure. BlackRock said the funds are specifically structured to meet reserve eligibility requirements established under the GENIUS Act, making them suitable assets for regulated US payment stablecoin issuers.

That positioning reflects a broader trend across Wall Street, where financial institutions increasingly view tokenized Treasury funds as an important bridge between conventional capital markets and digital asset ecosystems. For stablecoin issuers, holding reserves in tokenized money market funds could simplify settlement, improve operational efficiency and enable greater interoperability with blockchain-based financial applications while maintaining exposure to low-risk government securities. The involvement of Securitize, one of the leading providers of tokenized securities infrastructure, further reinforces the institutional focus of the initiative.

Wall Street’s Tokenization Race Intensifies

BlackRock’s latest products arrive amid intensifying competition among major asset managers to establish leadership in tokenized real-world assets. Several global firms, including JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton, Apollo and Invesco, have introduced or announced blockchain-based money market and Treasury products over the past year. Rather than competing with cryptocurrencies directly, these offerings aim to modernize the infrastructure underlying traditional financial markets by bringing regulated assets on-chain.

Supporters argue that tokenization enables faster settlement, round-the-clock transferability, greater transparency and more efficient collateral management. Critics caution that widespread adoption will require stronger interoperability standards, robust cybersecurity and clear regulatory oversight. BlackRock has consistently argued that tokenization represents one of the most significant long-term opportunities in capital markets. The expansion of its blockchain-based money market lineup suggests the firm sees increasing institutional demand for regulated digital representations of cash-equivalent assets rather than purely speculative crypto investments.

As governments continue establishing legal frameworks for stablecoins and tokenized securities, products such as BRSRV and TRSRV are expected to play an increasingly important role in connecting traditional finance with blockchain infrastructure. For BlackRock, the launch marks another step toward integrating conventional investment products into the rapidly evolving on-chain financial system.
